The most effective therapy takes place when there is a good fit between therapist and client.

My approach is to create a space where you can talk freely. I want to understand as best I can what’s going on.  I will always take your concerns seriously, without judgment, and balance that seriousness with a light touch.  I believe therapy works best when there is some humor woven in.

At the same time I look for your strengths – often these can get lost when the focus is on what isn’t working.  Our sessions focus on what you want and what is interfering in reaching your goals (even including not knowing what your goals are, if that’s the case).

I use a variety of techniques drawn from:

The common denominator that underlies these therapies is behavior.  Understanding what keeps problem behaviors going and what effective means there are for changing behavior is the common principle that all these different approaches share.  I draw from what these therapies teach us about how our minds, bodies, and relationships work, and use them to tailor treatment to your specific needs.  I combine my training with your wisdom and experience so that our therapy is a collaborative process, and progress comes from what each of us contributes.
