Object-Relations Therapy, is centered on the notion that we each develop a template about how to interact in the world when we are very young children.

When we have difficult experiences as children, sometimes the template doesn’t work so well to in our relationships as adults.

The task of therapy is to pay attention to how adult relationships in general (including that between client and therapist) mirror that of the client’s relationships with important people from childhood.

Conflict that occurs is a source of information about problems in the template, and growth is achieved by understanding conflicts in terms of the past and using this information to resolve them when they arise.
